On Saturday, March 28th, Channel 3 and Maleenont Tower joined in switching off unused lights around the TV station for one hour as part of the “Earth Hour: Switch Off Lights for One Hour to Reduce Global Warming” event, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM. This was done along with numerous companies and businesses in Bangkok and 7,000 cities in 190 countries worldwide. As a result of the event, Bangkok reduced its electricity consumption by 32 megawatts, saving 144,958 baht in electricity costs and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 13.5 tons – equivalent to the carbon dioxide absorption of 1,350 trees in one year, or the equivalent of 112 flights from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
